Lady Tigers ready for NCAA opener

POSTED: Sunday, March 18, 2012 - 5:00pm

UPDATED: Sunday, March 18, 2012 - 5:04pm

The LSU women’s basketball team will take on San Diego State tonight in the opening round of the NCAA tournament. The Tigers hope to enjoy home court advantage as they’ll square up against the Aztecs in the Maravich Center. Tip-off is set for approximately 6:30 p.m.

LSU is the five-seed and SDSU is the 12-seed in the Kingston regional.

The winner of tonight’s LSU/SDSU game will play on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m.

"To be able to play here in front of your home fans is special. Not many teams get that opportunity that we have. I'm excited to compete for a championship something that we haven't accomplished here at LSU. Just to try and get back to another Final Four and keep our legacy going for our five seniors here,” senior forward LaSondra Barrett said.

Less than two weeks after giving birth to a baby girl, Justice Fargas, LSU head coach Nikki Caldwell is back on the sideline coaching up her Lady Tiger Basketball team.

“When you are in March, it is one and done. They understand the consequences of going out and not playing to the best of their ability. We talk about don't leave anything to chance. We try and take that mentality with everything that we do, Caldwell said.

Tonight on NBC33 News at Ten we will take you to the Maravich Center and give you postgame reaction from the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.
