BATON ROUGE, LA — Due to an unfortunate scheduling conflict made by the golf course, the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank has rescheduled its 21st Annual “Slice of Life” Golf Classic to Monday, Oct. 22, at The Oaks at Sherwood. The event will proceed with registration and lunch beginning at 10:30 a.m. and tee time at noon.
Supporting this year’s event is Home Instead Senior Care, Mosaic Fertilizer, Arkel Constructors, Louisiana Lottery, Manda Fine Meats, Mockler Beverage, Baton Rouge Coca Cola, Zapp’s Potato Chips, Walk-Ons Bar and Bistreaux, Jimmy John’s and Cou-yon’s Cajun Bar-B-Q in Port Allen.
Funds raised from the “Slice of Life” Golf Classic will help the Food Bank support its more than 125 member agencies which feed individuals in its 11-parish service area. The community’s help is more important now than ever. With the recent economic downturn, individuals in our community are looking to the Food Bank for help.
The Oaks at Sherwood Golf Club offers 18 holes of link style golf on a private course. The par 72 course has wide fairways bordered by challenging rough and native grasses. With strategically placed bunkers and water that come in to play on eight holes, the five sets of tees make the course a true test of every golfer's skill level. Entry fees are $150 for individual players and $600 per team. This fee includes golf cart usage, green fees, range balls, refreshments located around each Par 3, pick-up lunch and an awards dinner. First through third place, hole-in-one, longest drive, straightest drive and closest-to-pin prizes will be awarded. Even if your swing is not up to par, every player can look forward to a special door prize in addition to their player gift.
The community is encouraged to take part in this event by calling the Food Bank at (225) 359-9940, ext. 220 or visiting the Food Bank website at www.brfoodbank.org. So remember to head to The Oaks at Sherwood on Oct. 22, to enjoy a day of golf and take a slice out of hunger.
