Morgan places sixth at Nathan's hot dog contest
BROOKLYN, NY (NBC33) — If you could stomach it, the ten most intense, interesting and perhaps disgusting minutes on television aired Independence Day.
In its 97th year, Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest was there once again to spoil your appetite. For the second straight year Baton Rouge was well represented.
Woodlawn graduate Adrian Morgan finished the contest by eating 35 hotdogs (buns included) in the ten minute window allowed. He topped his mark from 2011 but fell short of reaching his ultimate goal.
“I felt pretty good. I wish I would have done a few more but I'm not too upset. I was really hoping to get in the 36 to 38 range but I can't complain I guess,” Morgan said following the contest.
He was shooting for a top five finish where he would have brought home prize money. He fell one place short of that by finishing in sixth. Morgan’s already looking towards next year.
“I’ll definitely be back. This is our Super Bowl. I wouldn't miss this,” he said.
For now Morgan is still thinking about this year’s event and recovering from the 14,000 calorie lunch.
"Your stomach is just kind of in shock. You have to drink a lot of water and it feels like you have a basketball in your stomach. That is the best way to describe it I guess. "
It’s a feeling most will take his word for.
