After a top-5 finish in the U.S. Open former LSU golfer John Peterson rocketed up 560 spots in the World Golf Rankings.

Peterson jumped from 831 to 271 after finishing in a tie for forth place at 3-over par at the Olympic Club in San Francisco.

David Toms, another former LSU golfer, leaped up nine spots to 33nd in the rankings after finishing with the same score as Peterson.

It was Peterson’s first major tournament and the PGA Tour rookie received a prize of $276,841. Also, he will receive an automatic invite to next year’s Masters Tournament and U.S. Open.

Peterson, the 2011 NCAA Individual Champion, will participate in this week’s Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.
