Former Southeastern Louisiana University football player Brandon Collins signed a free agent contract with the NFL’s New York Giants after working out with the defending Super Bowl champions during the team’s rookie minicamp this past weekend.

Collins, who played his final two seasons with the Lions after transferring from Texas, finished tied with Simmie Yarborough with 61 receptions in 2011. A native of Brenham, Texas, Collins finished second in receiving yards (746) for the Lions and was tied with Kory Theodore with a team-high five touchdown receptions.

Collins also ranked third in the Southland Conference in punt returns, averaging 11 yards per attempt. He recorded a 60-yard return in Southeastern’s 2011 season-finale against Nicholls State, which tied Don Marino for the eighth-longest return in school history.

In his two-year career with the Lions, Collins caught 117 passes (ranking 8th in school history) for 1,621 yards (7th) and nine TDs. He recorded seven 100-yard receiving games in his career, highlighted by a six-catch, 164-yard performance as a junior at Central Arkansas.

Collins, who was signed for a rookie tryout, was one of three undrafted free agents to sign deals with the Giants joining linebacker Jake Muasau of Georgia State and safety Will Hill of Florida.
