BATON ROUGE, LA — Jeff Walker, a freshman forward on Baton Rouge Community College's (BRCC) men’s basketball team, was named National Junior College Athletic Association (NCJAA) Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 4-10.
He earned the honor for his performance against conference rival Delgado Community College (DCC) on Feb. 6.
Walker scored 20 points on 8 of 11 shooting, while dominating the glass with 23 rebounds (9 of them offensive); he also recorded three blocks, three assists and two steals during the game. Walker is averaging close to a double-double, with 14.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.
BRCC Head Basketball Coach, Ricky Wilson, attributes work ethic to Jeff’s success.
“Hard work and consistent effort in practice has allowed Jeff to improve his game since arriving on campus,” said Wilson.
“This award is a testament to how well he works with the team and how well he responds to coaching,” Wilson further explained.
Walker is the second BRCC athlete to receive Player of the Week honors from the National Junior College Athletic Association, albeit the first basketball player.
The Bears have been hot since returning from Winter Break as they sit atop the conference standings. With three games left in the regular season, the Bears are vying for the Miss/Lou Conference crown which would earn them a berth in Region 23 tournament in Jackson, MS which takes place March 6-9.
