The Super Bowl usually means super bucks for the host city. With the big show taking place in the Big Easy, Baton Rouge leaders are already figuring out how they can cash in on the thousands of tourists flocking to the game.

"We fully expect to be an extension of New Orleans during that period of time," commented Gary Jupiter, General Manager of the Springhill Suites in Baton Rouge.

"This is sort of like Bayou Country Superfest, it's bringing a lot of people in town on a weekend when you would not normally have that many people," Paul Arrigo, with Visit Baton Rouge added.

Arrigo said the city has been prepping for this since New Orleans got the bid.
He said his office is already planning on how to get several thousands of visitors to fill hotels and restaurants in the area.

"Our strategy is to go after those two teams that are selected right after the playoffs and concentrate on those two markets pursuing their visitors with advertising and public relations," Arrigo explained.

For hotel managers the Super Bowl comes at a low time in their year, when rooms usually sit empty, so a boost of football frenzied guests is welcome.

“Traveling takes a hit during that period of time. That won't be the case with the super bowl being in New Orleans. We'll have our fair share of customers and visitors to Baton Rouge," Jupiter said.

Those in the hospitality business say once they have tourists here, they intend on making sure they come back again.

"We love to show our town off and be able to say to these people, 'Hey New Orleans isn't the only big fish in the state," Jupiter added.

Plans are also being made to keep visitors in town, with Mardi Gras parades on hold in New Orleans Super Bowl weekend, Krewes in Baton Rouge will be rolling that Friday and Saturday. A fan fest and tailgate is also in the works for the Capital City.
