Ascension Parish Officials broke ground on a new type of recreational facility in Gonzales.

The parish is opening up a new skate park. Local skaters and Ascension Officials put their heads together over the course of six years just to get the first phase of the $175 dollar project underway.
The first phase will include quarter and half pipe elements, grind rails, and benches.

"We've worked so hard on it, done it so long since we were 18, maybe 19, when we started attending all these meetings and it's like, finally becoming real," a local skater, Jordan Perkins, said.
