Alabama wins SEC title game, headed to BCS championship
ATLANTA, GEORGIA — No. 2 Alabama held off a furious late charge by No. 3 Georgia on Saturday to earn a spot in the BCS National Championship game.
The Crimson Tide defeated the Bulldogs 32-28 at the SEC Championship game in Atlanta and will play top-ranked Notre Dame.
Alabama has a chance to win its second straight national championship.
Fan packing the Georgia Dome were treated to a game packed with dramatic moments, including Georgia blocking an Alabama field goal try and returning the ball for a touchdown, and a 45-yard touchdown pass from Alabama's AJ McCarron to Amari Cooper with just over three minutes left in the game to put the Tide ahead for good.
Alabama's Eddie Lacy scored two touchdowns, rushed for 185 yards and was named the game MVP.
Alabama coach Nick Saban said he "was ready to have a heart attack" from the last Georgia drive, which came up four yards short of a touchdown. "We created a great opportunity for ourselves" in the championship clash, Saban said.
