2014 US Youth Soccer Region III Championships to bring more than $18 million to Baton Rouge, La., area

The 2014 US Youth Soccer Region III (South) Championships, to be played June 20-26, will provide an estimated economic impact of more than $18 million to the Baton Rouge, La., area.

Local restaurants, hotels, retail stores and others will benefit from the more than 3,700 players, coaches, teams and tournament officials, along with an estimated 12,000 spectators attending the seven-day tournament. Visitors to the Baton Rouge, La., area will book an estimated 11,500 room nights at area hotels.

The top 198 boys and girls US Youth Soccer teams from Region III will compete at the BREC Burbank-Soccer Complex during the event.

“It is an honor to be chosen again to hold the US Youth Soccer Southern Regionals in Baton Rouge, La., and set the tone for the prized US Youth Soccer National Championships this July in Germantown, Md.,” said Bo Cassidy, Interim Executive Director of the Baton Rouge Soccer Club. “Soccer means a great deal to this community. We are delighted to host the best players and teams from across the region in this elite competition and utilize our top-tier facilities and volunteers.”

The opening ceremony will be held on June 19 at the Baton Rouge River Center, officially kicking off the week’s event by honoring all the teams and players who worked hard to make it to the Region III Championships.

US Youth Soccer State Champions and select wildcards in the Under-13 through Under-19 Boys and Girls age groups from 12 State Associations, including from host Louisiana Soccer Association, will participate in the event. The other state associations represented include Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Texas and Tennessee.

Regional winners of the U-13 through U-19 Boys and Girls brackets will earn a berth to the 2014 US Youth Soccer National Championships, presented by the National Guard, July 22-27, 2014 in Germantown, Md.
