The LHSAA softball tournament started Tuesday, with Parkview Baptist and Lafayette High School among local winners in the opening round.

Parkview beat district rival Redemptorist, 5-1. The Wolves played without head coach Yogi Doyle, who was rushed to the hospital after experiencing chest pains during warm-ups.

It took 12 innings for the Lafayette Lions to beat Comeaux, 1-0. LHS junior shortstop Natalie Deries brought home the game winning run with a single to center.
