Parkview Prepares for Dome

By Emily Turner

Parkview Baptist is headed to the Superdome for the first time since 2001.

"A lot of these kids were sixth and seventh graders when we went to the dome the last time, and they were in the dome when we won it," Parkview head coach Kenny Guillot said.

Now this 2007 Eagle squad is one win away from bringing bring back another state title banner home to Baton Rouge.

"It would probably be one of the greatest feelings ever, my last game to win a state championship with the guys around me,” quarterback Bryant Voth said.
”With the guys I’ve been with since elementary school, just for us to finish it out at the dome would be an amazing feeling."

"Its a once in a lifetime opportunity,” linebacker Eric Gavin said. “I just hope to make the best of it and cherish every moment that comes along with it."

While this may be the biggest game in these young player's lives, Guillot's squad knows how to keep from getting starry-eyed

"We’re going down there Thursday night for practice and then we're coming back home Thursday,” Guillot said. “We’re going to let them sleep at home, get in their normal bed, watch some TV, get up the next morning and go to school. We’re trying to make it as normal as possible."

"We’re going to keep it as basic as we have been,” Voth said. “We take it one game at a time like we’ve done all season. This is just any other Friday night game."

The Eagles are a sparkling 14-0 this year. But they may have met their match with an equally physical and also unbeaten Westlake Rams squad.

"They’re just like us,” linebacker Steven Sullivan said. “They’re a hard-nosed football team. They are going to go out there and be physical just like we are."
