Tuesday, April 12, 2011 - 10:54pm

Josh Cryer went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI and Southeastern
Louisiana struck for five runs in the fifth inning to pull away and defeat
Southern University, 10-4, in a nonconference game Tuesday at Pat Kenelly
Diamond at Alumni Field.

Jason Greenleaf and Matt Pittari combined to pitch 7.2 innings out of the
bullpen as Southeastern (23-11) scored eight unanswered runs after Southern
(19-12) took a 4-2 lead in the third.

Cryer, who moved past former Lion Macky Waguespack into third place in
school history with 211 hits, capped a two-run first inning for the Lions
with an RBI single that scored Justin Boudreaux before leading off the
fourth with a game-tying solo home run off Southern’s Belfred Pryer (3-3).

Southeastern broke the game open in the fifth as Trey Martin led off with an
infield single before moving to second when Brock Hebert was hit by a pitch.
After Jeff Harkensee was walked with one out to load the bases, Jonathan
Pace delivered a two-run double to left field before Cryer greeted Jaguar
reliever Brian Foster with a two-run single to left.

Greenleaf (3-2) equaled his season-high on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings
and allowing three hits and an unearned run. Pittari pitched the final four
innings and recorded five strikeouts to notch his first career save.

Southern erased a 2-0 deficit in the second inning as DeMario Ellis hit a
sacrifice fly before Ozzie Lamis and Taylor Roy each drew bases-loaded walks
for a 3-2 lead. Greenleaf, who relieved Southeastern starter Jordan Hymel,
walked Roy before getting Frazier Hall to hit into an inning-ending 4-6-3
double play.

The Jaguars upped their lead to 4-2 in the third inning on an RBI single by
David Nolting before Southeastern began its rally.

Boudreaux, who went 2-for-4 and scored three runs, doubled off the wall in
left field, stole third and scored on Harkensee’s grounder to short.

Bryan Rowry led Southern at the plate going 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
Lamis went 2-for-3 for the Jaguars, who hit into a pair of double plays and
stranded 11 men on base.

Pryer (3-3) took the loss for the Jaguars after allowing eight runs on seven
hits in 4.1 innings. Foster pitched 3.2 innings in relief for the Jaguars
giving up a pair of runs on two hits with two strikeouts.

Southeastern will return to action beginning Friday when it travels to face
Southland Conference leader Texas State in a three-game series. First pitch
in Friday’s opener is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with the series resuming
Saturday at 2 and concluding Sunday at 1.
