Baton Rouge Community College has named Coach James Rix as its Interim Men’s Basketball Head Coach.

Rix, who previously served as Assistant Coach, will lead the program while the college conducts a search for the position.

“At this point in time, Mr. Rix is the appropriate choice for continuing to build toward the standard of excellence that we have begun establishing,” BRCC Interim Athletic Director Shawn Lefleur said.

BRCC’s former Men’s Basketball Head Coach Todd Foster, who began with the program in its inaugural year, resigned in May to relocate closer to his children and family. Under Foster, the Bears were 34-23; they finished second in the Miss Lou conference during the 2010-2011 season.

Basketball has long been a passion for Coach James Rix. He has been involved with AAU basketball since 1980; many of the players he coached moved on to become athletes at NCAA Division I schools. His most recent stint as head coach was at Northside High School in Lafayette, Louisiana, where he led them to the Division 4-A State Championship in 2006.
