BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) - — Even though summer is still several weeks away, the heat in the Capital City area is hovering near record levels.
With sizzling temperatures burring up Baton Rouge, there are a few things you need to know to stay safe says Lauri Scivicque of Baton Rouge E.M.S., “if you’re going to be out in the heat you need to hydrate, don’t wait till you’re thirsty to start drinking water.”
You might also want to think about putting down the alcohol, if you’re been outside, “caffeine and alcohol can contribute to dehydration.” Also, don’t wait until you’re outside in the intense heat to start drinking water and make sure you have on the right type of clothing when you leave the house, “you can wear light clothing, lightweight clothing, light in color clothing, loose fitting.”
When you do leave your home, try to do it when it’s not blazing hot outside, “early morning, late evening is the times that we need to plan our activities”. Even if you’re safe, make sure to check in on those around you who may need your help like children and the elderly.
