GULF OF MEXICO (NBC33) — ExxonMobil says two major oil wells have been found in the Gulf of Mexico.
The wells are about 250 miles southwest of New Orleans. The oil giant says the wells are in about 7000 feet of water.
It's the first drilling of an exploration well in the Gulf of Mexico since the moratorium.
"We are commiteed to the continued safe exploration and development of this important national resource." says Steve Greenlee, the president of ExxonMobil's Exploration Company.
NBC33 is trying to talk with representatives of ExxonMobil here in Baton Rouge. We'll have more tonight on NBC33 News at 5:00
