This year’s World Series will pit the New York Yankees against the Philadelphia Phillies. It’s a match-up one local high school basketball says he doesn’t plan on missing.
Coach Kenny Almond, currently the varsity basketball coach at East Ascension High, is a die-hard Yankees fan but says one of his favorite former athletes now pitches for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Almond says Chad Durbin, a relief pitcher for the Phillies, used to be his star basketball player when he coached at Woodlawn High. Almond says in his forty years as a high school coach, he’s seen some spectacular athletes come and go, but not one like Chad Durbin.
"Chad knows I’m pulling for him… and the Yankees!!!"
Almond says in a perfect world, he wouldn’t have to cheer for both teams.
