BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) — A Baton Rouge man is behind bars after, troopers say, he passed counterfeit checks and defrauded a bank out of $100,000. The Louisiana State Police began to investigate after Regions Bank accused Edward Oliver Sr., 60, of bank fraud and theft.
The troopers' investigation revealed that Edwards had passed several counterfeit checks, totaling more than $111,490, at different Regions Bank brances around the capitol city. They say he deposited the checks and then withdrew the funds from his account before the bank could discover that they were counterfeit.
Edwards was booked in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of bank fraud and felony theft. He faces up to ten years in prison and up to $3,000 if found guilty.
