NEW ORLEANS, LA (NBC33) — A three-year old boy died yesterday after a family friend left the child locked inside of a car for eight hours. Experts say the temperature inside that car could have reached over 150 degrees during that time.
New Orleans Police Detectives are still investigating this case of child abuser. Officials say the child was in the care of a family fried Genne Brummfeld.
Brumfield picked up the 3 year old from his mother’s house around 8:00 a.m. on Monday, May 31. She was supposed take the child to daycare. Instead, they say Brumfield stopped at her mother’s home located in the 600 block of South Scott. They say Brumfield went in the home and left the child sitting in the locked car with the windows rolled up.
After 8 hours in the car, Brumfield’s sister finally realized what happened, but it was too late, the child was unresponsive. EMS and Police were called to the scene.
Witnesses report that family members were devastated, rushing to the scene and sobbing, trying to comprehend how this happened.
Brumfield was taken to the hospital after learning of the child’s death because she was over come with grief. Police say that when she is released, she will be facing criminal charges. An autopsy is being performed to determine the exact cause of death.
