BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — In front of a packed council chamber - the head of State Police, his family, and dozens of members of the Baton Rouge Police Department, Chief Donald Dewayne White became the new chief of BRPD.
After a few words, he had a message for the Mayor.
"Mr. Mayor, I will not let you down, I will not let the citizens down", says White.
Interim Chief Charles Mondrick says he'll go back into retirement and help with the Central Fire Department.
White says he has a list of ways to help curb crime in the Capital City. He says he'll address the police force first, then make his ideas public.
Andrew Capasso will have more on the swearing in and the job ahead for Chief White tonight on NBC33 News at 5:00
