ATCHAFALAY BASIN, LA (NBC33) — The Atchafalaya Basin in St. Martin Parish will be closed starting today, Thursday, May 26. The closure will stretch from the Henderson levee on the west side to the Butte La Rose levee on the east side. The width of the closure is from the I-10 bridge on the south side to a line half a mile north of the bridge on the north side.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has issued the closure due to the high water conditions caused by the opening of the Morganza Spillway. The high water is dangerously close to high voltage electrical lines.
The closure remains in effect until further notice.
