One family in the Southdowns area says last night’s storms caused more damage to their house than Hurricane Gustav. Around 1:00 this morning Robbie McHardy and her son woke up to a crash. A tree fell through the ceiling right above her bed. The family thought it was a tornado, but the National Weather Service says straight-line winds blew through the area at almost 70 miles per hour.
McHardy says, “It broke the water main, besides the electricity, we have no water either, so I think it’s a hotel tonight or a friend’s house.” McHardy says she and her son have a lot of repairs to make but they’re just glad to be alive.
