BATON ROUGE, LA (EBR SCHOOL BOARD) — East Baton Rouge Parish School System Superintendent John Dilworth submitted a letter this morning to School Board President Barbara Freiberg stating he does not plan to seek an extension of his current contract.
Dilworth began his tenure as superintendent July 1, 2009, replacing Charlotte D. Placide, who retired.
Dilworth plans to remain as the district’s superintendent until June 30, 2012, when his current contract expires.
“I have been blessed to be able to serve in this position” Dilworth said. “I have great respect for our employees and community members who have worked extremely hard to enrich the lives of our students and improve our schools. I do not want my decision to be a distraction to the wonderful things happening with the development of a strategic plan for the School System.”
East Baton Rouge Parish School Board President Barbara Freiberg expects the School Board to meet soon on this matter. “As a Board, we intend to use this time to conduct a thorough search to find a superintendent, and we will remain focused on the close of the school year and increasing student achievement.” said Freiberg. “The superintendent intends to serve out his contract, which ends June 30, 2012, and we will work with Mr. Dilworth to ensure a smooth transition.”
The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board will announce a timetable for selecting Dilworth’s replacement in the near future.
