Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — Late this afternoon, BRPD Chief Charles Mondrick ordered the evidence room at police headquarters be moved to higher ground.
Mondrick says the decision was made out of an abundance of caution, due to BRPD being less than a mile from the Mississippi River. If there is flooding downtown, or a breach, officers here wouldn't have time to clear the building.
Evidence for pending court cases is stored underground, in the basement of headquarters. It would be the first place to take on water and that could compromise every court case in the dapartment’s jurisdiction.
Stay tuned to NBC33 on Friday as Reporter Jennifer Crockett follows the process evidence goes through to be moved.
