BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33)- Tonight Governor Bobby Jindal addressed the likelihood of the Morganza Spillway opening.
The Army Corps of Engineers say the Spillway will open once the river’s flow reaches one point five million cubic feet of water per second at Red River Landing. This is forecasted to happen on Saturday. The Governor warned residents that they should not wait until the last minute to get ready for the rising flood waters to flow into their neighborhood, “start planning for their own families now, if they need to take documents, valuables, medication, pets. If they have any special dietary needs, now is the time to start planning.”
The Morganza Spillway was last opened back in 1973. The Mississippi River is scheduled to crest in Baton Rouge on May 22nd.
