BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — Governor Jindal held a press conference at GOHSEP, which has become a daily occurrence for the past week. Today, he updates on the emergency personnel increase and how the state is gearing up for impending flooding.
Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain says there are programs that will help assist farmers who lose more than 50% of crops, and there are programs for live stock farmers to help them financially.
Although not official, it is likely the Morganza Spillway will be opened. Strain says that if the spillway is opened, then the damages will be covered by disaster assistance, even if the farm is uninsured.
If the Morganza Spillway is opened, it will be similar to what was experienced in 1973.
