ANGOLA PENETENTIARY (NBC33) - — Starting Monday, about half on Angola Penetentiary's population will be evacuated. They'll all go to other State prisons. First - the ill patients will leave, then another 1000 will go on Wedneday.
About the other half of the population will stay back at help to make sure Angola doesn't go underwater. Warden Burl Cain says they're filling sand bags that will be placed all along the levee. Inmates are filling about a thousand of those bags each hour.
The water is expected to crest at 65.5 feet on May 23rd. Most of the levees at the prison are at 70 feet.
