Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — An update to a bill we told you about yesterday. House Bill 480, authored by Regina Barrow, was discussed today in the House Commerce Committee meeting. Barrow told NBC 33 that the bill received major opposition from several associations. These included the small business and retailers association, as well as representatives from both Walmart and American Express.
Barrow says she will talk with committee members about amendments to the bill. She plans on reintroducing the bill in approximately two weeks
-- Identity theft is a growing problem within Louisiana says state representative Regina Barrow.
That’s why she is proposing House Bill 480. It mandates that you have to show some form of identification each time you make a credit or debit card purchase. It is a bill she feels will help the state economically, “it is costing the state of Louisiana millions of dollars each year because of identity theft. It’s a good protection measure for consumers as well as merchants.”
The bill will be discussed in committee meetings tomorrow. Barrow expects her bill to reach the House floor by early next week
