BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) - — Southern University has hired Roman Banks as its new men's basketball head coach. Banks was previously an associate men's head basketball coach at Southeastern Louisiana University. He was a part of seven winning seasons and 140 wins with the Lions.
Banks, 41, will replace Rob Spivery, who led the Jags from 2005 to this past season. Spivery went 57-127 in his six years on the job at Southern.
His appointment is conditional, pending confirmation by the Southern University System Board of Supervisors at its upcoming meeting on April 29.
Banks was an assistant on the Bluff from 1996-2002
