BATON ROUGE, La (NBC 33) - The East Baton Rouge Lab School will not close.
That was the decision of the East Baton Rouge Parish school board Thursday evening. If passed, the proposal would have slowly phased out the school over the next three years.
Before the decision, East Baton Rouge Lab students, faculty and staff made impassioned pleas to the board to keep the school open. One of the most vociferous opponents of the proposed closure was E.B.R. teacher Tammi Hauptman, “to suggest the phase out would jeopardize the stability and the credibility of our school. I know the board must agree with me, the goal is to give our students and our schools the best, not set them up for failure.”
The East Baton Rouge Parish school system is still trying to find ways to close its $39 million budget deficit.
