Valdez, Alaska (NBC33) — During my trip to Alaska, I met with Stan Stephens, who’s been running tour companies for over 40 years in Valdez and Prince William Sound.
He says when the Exxon-Valdez spill happened, it was bare survival; however, marketing by Alaska slowly brought the numbers back up.
Stephens says it's important for officials here in Louisiana to use that money wisely.
“Spend a lot of money telling people come on down and get them back… that's the only way it's going to happen,” said Stephens. “I think they (the tourism industry) will be injured from it for years. It’s not gonna come back over night.”
