BATON ROUGE, La (NBC 33) - Capital Area Transit employees and those that use CATS took part in the first annual “Help save our bus system” fundraiser.
More than 200 people showed up for the event that raised more than $2,200 for the financially strapped transit system. While employees were happy they were able to raise the money, they are hoping a regular funding source can be found before it’s too late, “if we don’t receive the tax, we might have to have a massive layoff and we might have to shut the transit down” says CATS employee Larry Potan.
The group is also planning to hold a rally at the State Capitol on May 16th at nine a.m. to get the word out about and hopefully get funding for CATS to keep it up and running.
CATS is scheduled to be out of money by August of this year.
