Lafayette, La (NBC33) — A man driving a stolen truck that also robbed a drug store in Lafayette has been detained by authorities on March 21.
Lafayette Police went to Jefferson Drug Store at around 4:00 p.m. in regards to an armed robbery.
According to employees, the suspect entered the store with a gun and demanded the narcotic oxytocin. He then attempted to reach over the counter and was stopped by three employees; a physical altercation ensued. The gun was later found to be a BB gun.
The suspect fled the store with the drugs in a white pick-up truck traveling towards I-10. The truck, a 2011 GMC with an Illinois license plate, had been reported stolen just prior to the drug store heist.
Lafayette police were notified by the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office at around 5:45 p.m. that both the stolen truck and suspect, Russell James Giangrosso Jr., 29, were in their custody.
When officers confronted Giangrosso, he would not exit the vehicle and began consuming large amounts of pills from the stolen pill bottles.
He was forcibly removed and began to resist arrest. When oficers could not handcuff him, he was tased and arrested.
Giangrosso is currently at Our Lady of the Lake being watched by the Gonzales Police Department until he is medically fit to be released.
