BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) - People gathered on the steps of the State Capitol today, protesting a proposal to privatize or sell local correctional centers.
The rally brought out employees and supporters of the correctional facilities facing the chopping block. Many said they want Governor Jindal to look elsewhere to get budget money instead of terminating their jobs.
The proposal says the state will be able to sell Allen, Winn, and Avoyelles Correctional Facilities through a competitive bid process. Each of those facilities could bring in $32 million in revenue, but employees are concerned about their jobs and livelihoods.
