State officials are looking at some new cost cutting measures. State treasurer John Kennedy announced 19 recommendations during an event Monday.
He's hoping the legislature and governor Bobby Jindal will make the changes in the face of a looming budget deficit for next year.
Kennedy says for starters, the government has to reduce the number of state employees by not filling current vacanies. He says they should also re-organize the state's university systems. Kennedy added that Louisiana could save over a hundred million dollars by limiting the number of non-emergency visits to hospital emergency rooms.
