VALDEZ, Ak (NBC33) - It didn't take long for corexit to become controversial in the Crisis on the Coast.
The dispersant wasn't used very much in the Exxon Valdez spill because of the weather. One dispersant expert in Valdez says he's okay wtih that.
John Allen grew up in the Prince William Sound area. He's studied and seen the effects of dispersant.
The EPA says corexit was so dangerous, they ordered BP to use something different in the gulf.
They agency says people that come into contact with it could end up with respiratory and skin problems.
To be fair - there's a list of dispersants available during a spill. Some are more toxic and less effective than Corexit.
