A new survey puts Baton Rouge among the most violent cities in the country. The ranking comes from Forbes Magazine, pushing the Red Stick into the top 15 of the list.
They’re old numbers with a twist, Baton Rouge went from ranking only 31 as the most dangerous city to number 12 according to Forbes Magazine. EBR District Attorney Hillar Moore says, “It’s a list that we don’t want to be on whether its number 8, 10, 12, 30 we want to be down that list.”
The numbers are based off the FBI’s recent stats. Hillar Moore says the magazine simply added violent crime numbers from Livingston, Ascension, and West Baton Rouge Parish to the E.B.R.’s numbers causing the population to jump from 400,000 to 770,000. “Obviously you’d have a much higher ranking or number based on the way that these cities or metropolitan areas are grouped.”
Although BRPD say crime is down, Moore says his office is seeing more and more cases coming in, making violent criminal their top priority. “What we want to do is stop violent or repeat offenders. We have a significant number that are causing the biggest problems in Baton Rouge and we’re going to do everything we can to bring those people down and hopefully obtain justice for the people of Baton Rouge.”
Other neighbor metropolitan areas like East and West Feliciana were also included into the equation. Baton Rouge fell right below New Orleans, which ranked number 11.
