BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) -- With the income tax deadline looming right around the corner, the LSU Department of Accounting is lending a helping hand to those in need of assistance.
Both the school and the Internal Revenue Service are sponsoring a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) website, which is open to the general public.
"The VITA site will assist anyone who earned less than $49,000 last year. Tax preparation services offered are free, and returns will be filed electronically," states Letti Lowe-Ardoin, an accounting instructor at LSU. Lowe-Ardoin also teaches an income tax class to students that focuses on the site itself.
The LSU Accounting Department has set up a VITA location in the LSU Facility Services Cafeteria on CEBA Ln. The hours of operation are as follows: Tuesdays, 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; Wednesdays, noon-8 p.m.; Thursdays, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month, 9 a.m.-noon.
