BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) - Sunday, Jan. 9 was the beginning a winter storm warning, and everyone is getting ready for the harsh weather.
Temperatures Sunday plummeted to below forty degrees, and they're expected to stay that way all this week.
The Office of Homeland Security in Baton Rouge even issued a warning making sure people take the proper precautions to stay safe.
Mark Cooper is the Executive Director of Homeland Security in Baton Rouge. He says there's four easy things people can do to prepare.
Things such as:
1. Checking in on elderly family members because they may be physically unable to fix heaters, and wrap pipes.
2. Insulate your plants with tarps or extra mulch.
3. Make sure your pets are inside.
4. Wrap your pipes and letting water drip so it won't freeze.
