This is an NBC33 News Update: A second suspect has been arrested and charged with armed robberies tied to the victims buying or selling on Craigslist.
The Baton Rouge Police Department arrested Brandon Breon Seals, 19, on one count of Armed Robbery. He’s charged in connection to the Dec. 12 robbery.
Original Story: BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) – Buyer beware! Purchasing items online could end up getting you more than you bargained for. This was the case for several victims of a seventeen-year old who ripped off his victims through Craigslist.
The Baton Rouge Police Department has arrested Ray Juan Martin of Kimberly Drive in Baton Rouge on four counts of Armed Robbery. Two of his victims were trying to buy or sell items via Craigslist.
The first robbery for which Martin is accused took place on Oct. 8, 2010. The victims claim he set up the meeting and then had two black males rob them and force their way into the home with handguns.
The following incidents occurred in similar fashion just weeks apart from each other. The final incident occurred on Dec. 17 on Monterrey Blvd. The victim placed an ad on Craigslist offering to sell an iPhone. When he arrived to make the transaction, he was robbed at gunpoint instead.
Martin was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for these robberies. Additional arrests are expected.
