BATON ROUGE, La (NBC33) - CATS Officials are getting ready for service cuts and fare hikes next year. It's all part of an attempt to make up for a deficit of over a million dollars. The company surveyed hundreds of riders over the past few months to see what cuts could be least concerning.
But even with the proposals - some riders are worried about how it could impact their day to day lives.
Among the changes..
-All Routes would still exist except 3-Goodwood and Baker and Zachary part of 11-Harding.
-Saturday and Sunday service would be cut
-Holiday Service would be cut
Among the fare increases -
-Base Fare from $1.75 to $2.00
-ADA Paratransit Fate from $1.75 to $4.00
-Discount Fare from .35 to $1.00
-15 Ride Discount Fare from $5.25 to $13.50
-15 Ride Fare from $24.50 to $27.00
Since weekend service is cut - 7 day Fare will be reduced from $19.00 to $12.50. The 31 day fare will also be reduced from $56.00 to $52.50
The CATS Board of Directors will review the proposal on January 4th. Before they're put in place - Metro Council must approve them on January 12th.
CATS says they're working with local taxi companies to help make up for no weekend service.
