TERRYTOWN, La. (WDSU) -- Six children were injured Wednesday morning when a car crashed into a school in Terrytown, Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies said.
It happened around 8:30 a.m. at Stepping Stones Montessori School 520 Terry Parkway.
Parents and teachers said the woman driving the car was parking, and then accidentally hit the gas pedal and crashed through the front of the building.
Six children were transported to an area hospital, and all of their injuries were considered non-life-threatening, parents said. Two of the children -- a 10-year-old boy and 9-year-old girl -- had more serious injuries and were transported to Children's Hospital, deputies said.
A sheriff's office spokesman said no charges will be filed against the driver.
The school serves children in the first through fourth grades.
The uninjured students who could not be picked up by their parents were taken to a neighboring school building that was not damaged in the accident, school officials said.
