This is an NBC33 News Update: We are happy to announce that the gumbo contest raised $500 for the Boys and Girls Club of Baton Rouge. Also, the group donated five gallons of gumbo, along with rice and potato salad to the Baton Rouge Battered Women’s Shelter.

BATON ROUGE, La (WVLA) -- The Baton Rouge Rugby Club was serving up hot gumbo on Friday, Nov. 26 and some area children will benefit.
It was a gumbo cook off with both professional and amateur contestants. There were gumbo recipes from all over the capital city, including TJ Ribs, Go Ya Ya's and Podnuhs. But local folks also were competing for the yellow ribbon.
Winners were chosen in a blind taste test. Judges included people like District Attorney Hillar Moore.
The winners are as follows:
Professional Seafood Gumbo: 1st Place, The Chimes
Professional Sausage Gumbo: 1st Place, All Star Catering
Amateur Sausage Gumbo: 1st Place, Brian Clayton
People's Choice Seafood Gumbo: 1st Place, TJ Ribs
People's Choice Sausage Gumbo: 1st Place, Hunter Guidry
