BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — More and more people are picking pre-made plates over home cookin' on Thanksgiving Day. That's according to local caterers. Many say their businesses are booming right now.
At Maggio's Caterers, orders have been pouring in for full Thanksgiving dinners all week. There are so many orders that owner, Mark Maggio, says the number of dinners sold has doubled since last year. He chalks its up to the economy. Maggio thinks more moms are headed back to work, meaning there's less time and energy left for tending to the turkey.
"She's tired," says Maggio. "She's worked all day long, all week long. She doesn't want to go home and cook Thanksgiving dinner."
Maggio says a pre-made meal runs his customers about the same amount of money as if they'd cooked themselves. It's about $140 for a turkey and a few traditional sides.
