BATON ROUGE, La (WVLA) – Jay Dardenne, the new Lieutenant Governor, and Tom Schedler, Dardenne’s replacement as Secretary of State, are being sworn in at the Old State Capitol in downtown Baton Rouge this afternoon. Along with swearing in ceremony, officials will unveil the new, redesigned Louisiana State Flag.
In 2006 lawmakers voted to require new state flag to show three drops of blood on the breast of a mother pelican. The blood represents marks from the three chicks shown in the nest.
The representation of the blood signifies the state’s willingness to sacrifice itself for its citizens.
