Fire destroyed the Singleton family home at 528 West Johnson Street early Monday morning. The family's son, Steven Walker, 38, died inside. He was the only one at home when the fire started, around 3:30am. Firefighters arrived on the scene to find the home burning out of control. Neighbors say flames shot straight up, out of the ceiling. They called Walker's family members who say they could see smoke from the fire from Interstate 10.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Investigators with the Baton Rouge Fire Department say they do not expect foul play. They believe the fire started in the dining area of the home and quickly spread to the attic.
The home is considered a total loss.
On NBC 33 News at 5pm, Jennifer Crockett talks to family members about how they will remember Steven Walker.
