BATON ROUGE, La (WVLA) -- Lieutenant Governor elect Jay Dardenne announced today, Wednesday, Nov. 3, that he could take office on November 12, but he will wait to assume his new post until November 22 to avoid a special election for his current job as Secretary of State. The ten day delay will save tax payers $6 million.
Dardenne also announced today in Baton Rouge that Tom Schedler, the First Assistant, will be the interim Secretary of State until the regular election in 2011. Mr. Schedler said he’s happy to assume the reigns and will run for Secretary of State during that regular election in 2011.
Schedler’s first order of business will be the replacement of some key positions for individuals who will be moving on with Dardenne to the Office of Culture, Recreation and Tourism. Schedler said in the press conference that the toughest job to fill is also the most important – Deputy Secretary. Current Deputy Secretary Randy Davis will be joining Dardenne in his new office as well.
