AUBURN, AL (WVLA) - The week leading up to the game Auburn quarterback Cam Newtown said he wasn't scared of the spotlight. Saturday he backed his words up. Newtown, the Heisman trophy frontrunner, ran crazy over LSU's top rated defense racking up 217 yards on 28 carries to propel his Tigers to a 24-17 victory. LSU had no answer for not only Newton but the entire Auburn rushing attack. As a team, Auburn rushed for 440 yards on 52 attempts. The game was tied at 17 late in the 4th quarter until Auburn's Onterrio McCalebb broke free for a 70 yard touchdown that proved to be the game winner. LSU is on a bye this week. Their next contest is against Alabama on November 6th.
SHREVEPORT, LA (WVLA) - The Southern Jaguars lost another close game Saturday. This time it was Prairie Veiw A&M that got the best of the Jags beating them 30-16. Southerns offense had a tough time moving the ball especially in the second half which led head coach Stump Mitchell to bench his starting quarterback Jeremiah McGinty for backup Dray Joseph. The Jags are on the road once again this week as they travel to Alcorn State.
