Baton Rouge NBC33 — People from all over the state came together at the governor's mansion today for a special award ceremony.
They're all celebrating people nominated for the "Louisiana Volunteer of the Year" Award.
One student winner spends his time helping younger children see the purpose in school. He says even though his volunteer club only gets to meet with these children 30 minutes each week-- they're already seeing the difference. He says giving back is a good feeling.
Victor Rushing said "I've had great people throughout my life show me how to be a great servant, and I just want to be like them because I know that they've made a huge impact on my life, so I'd love to make an impact on somebody else's life just like they have."
One outstanding volunteer is selected from each school district in the state and is recognized at the banquet.
