BATON ROUGE, LA (WVLA) October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, and on Sunday night, over 300 Baton Rouge residents gathered in front of LSU's Memorial Tower to "Take Back the Night." The event was sponsored in part by the Capital Area Battered Women's Program. People of all genders and walks of life came out in pink t-shirts for the candlelight vigil in remembrance of the women and men killed this past year as a result of domestic abuse. There was also a march against domestic violence against women. According to statistics, Louisiana ranks second in the nation for homicides related to domestic abuse. Organizers say they hope to bring awareness that domestic violence is not just a women's issue, they say its a community issue.
